Helena Guimarães Vice President

Degree in Marine Biology from the University of Algarve (UALG), Master in Marine Biology with a focus on integrated management of natural resources from the University of Algarve and a PhD in Environmental Sciences in the field: Spatial Planning from the University of the Azores. Her involvement in coastal and marine systems management began in 2005 in the Algarve through her master’s thesis supervised by marine biologists, technicians from the Ria Formosa Natural Park and sociologists. She has always worked in academia, where the focus remains on creating work teams with people from diverse scientific disciplines and other sectors of society. Her main focuses are sustainability challenges in the management of aquatic and terrestrial natural resources. Originally from Porto, she lives in Faro and has been working as an integrated researcher since 2013 at the Mediterranean Institute for Agriculture, Environment and Development (MED) at the University of Évora. She has an extensive experience in knowledge co-construction processes, both in terms of defining management practices and political initiatives in favor of a healthy future.
