Nélia Mestre

With a degree in Marine Biology and Fisheries and a Master’s in Marine and Coastal Studies from the University of Algarve, she obtained a PhD in Ocean and Earth Sciences from the University of Southampton, United Kingdom. She specialised in deep sea biology and ecology and worked in several Portuguese and international institutions (DOP-IMAR / University of the Azores, University of Aveiro, IFREMER, National Oceanography Center, Université Pierre et Marie Curie). She is currently developing research at the Marine and Environmental Research Center of the University of Algarve related to marine ecotoxicology and the environmental impact of human activities in the deep sea.
