Raquel Pereira

Degree in Marine Biology and Biotechnology from the Polytechnic of Leiria and Master in Aquaculture and Fisheries from the University of Algarve. In the last year of her degree, she did an internship in Iceland, at the Icelandic Orca Project, contributing to the monitoring of the killer whales population in Icelandic waters. For her master’s thesis, she studied the socio-economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the Portuguese fisheries sector, which sparked her interest in fishing communities and sustainable fisheries. Throughout her career she took several diving courses, worked as a volunteer in the LifeBerlengas project and in social causes such as REFOOD and Candeia.
