Sciaena and Fundació ENT launch poster explaining the precautionary approach applied to fisheries

Sciaena and Fundació ENT have launched a poster that summarizes and highlights the importance of applying the precautionary approach to fisheries management, as required by the EU’s Common Fisheries Policy.

Using the precautionary approach allows for more cautious decision-making, especially when scientific information on maximum sustainable yield (MSY) is lacking or uncertain. Considering that, this year, the deep-sea TACs for 2021 and 2022 will be agreed and none of these deep-sea stocks managed by fishing limits currently have MSY-based scientific advice, it is extremely important that the European Commission and the European Council follow the advice ICES to ensure that the CFP precautionary approach and MSY objectives are met for these stocks.
