Sciaena is one of the co-organizers of the 6th National Meeting on Climate Justice. Together with 17 other associations, and as in previous years, we will seek to expose, develop and debate one of the most urgent issues of our time: the climate crisis.

On the 12th and 13th of March, we come together and we want to share, build bridges and build common goals, that will allow us to fight against the environmental collapse that becomes more inevitable with each passing day. We will go to the root of the problems, looking for what is common between the various movements and how they can articulate for the common good.

Within the meeting, Sciaena will host the online session “Lei de Bases do Clima”, on March 13 (Saturday) between 11 am and 12:30 pm. To complete the registration, it is necessary to access this link and check the corresponding option. We will count on an initial intervention by a panel of experts, followed by a debate with the audience.

This momentum is important as there are 8 proposals for a Climate Law under discussion in the Assembly of the Republic. For this reason, it is important to understand what these projects address and what ambitions should be included in such a law, more than a year after the declaration of climate emergency in national parliament. This phase is essential to understand how and at what times citizens can participate in the process. It remains to be seen how our leaders will behave and what doors will be open for effective combat and mitigation of the effects of climate change. There is an urgent need to integrate evidence into decision-making and develop sectorial plans that promote a rapid, inclusive and fair ecological transition. How to prevent the degradation of natural resources and make them allies in the fight against the climate crisis? The Climate Law will determine the guidelines for action in the coming decades and the time to know and improve now.

The complete program of the event can be found here.

The event will be held in Portuguese only.
