Gonçalo Freitas Marine Litter and Climate Policy Officer
Graduated in Marine Biology from the University of Algarve and holding a Master’s degree in Marine Biology and Conservation from ISPA, he is passionate about all marine creatures, with a special fascination for the whale shark. He interned at the Education Department of the Lisbon Oceanarium and participated in a marine turtle conservation project in Malaysia, experiences that shaped his journey. He is currently the president of Ocean Hub Portugal, a group of young individuals promoting ocean conservation and raising awareness of its importance. At Sciaena, he is part of the Marine Litter team, where he leads the work on microplastics and coordinates the Há Mar e Mar network, while keeping a close eye on distinct topics such as deep-sea mining and marine protected areas.
