José Nuno Gomes Pereira was born in Lisbon, having become a naturalist between the cliffs of Santa Cruz and the Berlengas caves where he spent his childhood. Master in Marine Biology and Fisheries from the University of Algarve in 2006 and PhD in Deep Sea Marine Ecology from the University of the Azores in 2020, he is one of the founders of Sciaena.org in an attempt to shorten the gap between civil society and the political class in Sea Affairs. Currently based in the Azores, he continues to publish about marine ecology and work on the sustainability of nature tourism, having recently published the heaviest fish in the world (2744Kg), a giant Sunfish!
