Catarina Abril Fisheries and Climate Policy Officer
Graduated from the University of Algarve in Marine Biology and Master in Marine Biology and Conservation by ISPA, she is a real “sharky”. Her love for sharks earned her, in 2019, the Women in Shark Science scholarship from the South African Shark Conservancy, allowing her to do an internship in Hermanus, South Africa. She currently leads Sciaena’s work in the deep sea, specifically: monitoring the management of stocks under the jurisdiction of the North-East Atlantic Fisheries Commission; protecting seamounts and other vulnerable marine ecosystems from destructive practices; and combating unsustainable practices such as deep-sea mining and marine geoengineering.
